Letter of Administration
When a person dies without a valid will there is no executor as they are appointed in the will. In this case, a next of kin will usually take on the role of administering the estate.
However, this cannot be done until they receive a grant of letters of administration.
A court will grant a letter of administration once they have examined the necessary documents and are satisfied that the person seeking the grant should be the authorised administrator.
